  • Evil Dead: The Musical returns to The City Theatre!

    The Ringwald and Olympia Entertainment are thrilled to be bringing the hilariously, bloody Evil Dead: The Musical back to Detroit for its third annual engagement. In honor of the cult classic’s Detroit world premiere in October 1981, the musical will perform a four week engagement starting Thursday, October 4 through Saturday, October 27 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at Detroit’s City Theatre; located inside Hockeytown Café at 2301 Woodward Avenue.

    Nominations were recently announced for the 2012 Wilde Awards and Vince Kelley was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical for his amazing turn as the title character in Hedwig and the Angry Inch from this past fall.   • 2012 GPS (Gay Play Series) Winners

    FANNY PACKS AND HANKY CODES WINS BEST SCRIPT AT THIS YEAR'S GPS (GAY PLAY SERIES) The third annual GPS (Gay Play Series) completed its most successful year last night at Ferndale’s Ringwald Theatre. The Audience Award for Best Script this year went to Fanny Packs and Hanky Codes by San Francisco playwright Kristian O’Hare. Fanny Packs and Hanky Codes was directed by Matthew Turner Shelton and featured Shelton, Patrick O’Connor Cronin, Frannie Shepherd-Bates, and Josh Campos.

  • General Auditions June 12-14, 2012

    Eleven of the Detroit area’s most popular and critically-acclaimed theatre companies will be holding joint general auditions for the 2012-2013 theatre season June 12, 13 and 14, at the Two Muses Theatre inside the West Bloomfield Barnes and Noble (6800 Orchard Lake Rd, West Bloomfield, MI 48322, south of Maple Rd.). Auditions will be held from 5:30-10:00 p.m. each evening.

  • SPEED-THE-PLOW closes early

    An early closing date for our production, Speed-the-Plow. The production, originally set to close April 23, will now close Monday, April 9. Producer Bobby Gould (Jamie Warrow) must decide whether to give the go ahead to yet another bad action flick, scored by best friend Charlie Fox (Leah Smith), guaranteed to be a blockbuster or produce an earnest, apocalyptic novel, championed by sexy temp Karen (Kelly Rossi), that can greatly effect change but will almost certainly flop.

    Restoration Dogs is a transformative period piece by Mark Finnell containing aspects of parody of the cult film Reservoir Dogs (1992). In this transformative work, eight criminals plot to steal the Crown Jewels of the British throne under the rule of King Charles II . The setting is London 1671.

  • Ringwald performs staged reading of new Dustin Lance Black play, "8"

    The Ringwald Theatre is proud to present a staged reading of a new documentary play by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk), called “8,” about the federal case for marriage equality. Following the performance will be a talk back with equality advocates to learn more about the fight for marriage equality in Michigan and at the federal level. All proceeds will be donated to American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organizational sponsor of the federal case for marriage equality.

    The Ringwald Theatre is sounding a call for new, original one-act plays to be performed at their 3rd annual Gay Play Series (GPS). The Detroit-area’s only GLBT short play festival is striving to provide early-career writers the opportunity to see their work produced, giving them what is oft-needed exposure. Last year’s expanded festival proved to be wildly successful, with Jason Sebacher’s play, A Few Survivors, winning the top prize.
